AC Materials invests in a new industrial washing facility.

At AC Materials, our longstanding goal has always been to utilize our recycled materials in the highest possible applications. In line with this objective, we have invested in a washing facility that enables us to consistently produce high-quality concrete and mix aggregates. A recent revision in the Belgian concrete standard now allows the use of recycled aggregates in various application areas. We refer to these aggregates as concrete aggregates type A+ and mix aggregates type B+. Naturally, these aggregate types are subject to stringent quality requirements concerning their physical and chemical composition, as well as their structural properties. Both these aggregates and the concrete mixtures (up to EE3 in reinforced and unreinforced concrete) produced with them are BENOR-certified. The Standard Specification 250 also permits the use of these concrete mixtures in various applications.

The washing facility sieves and cleans the broken material, resulting in a significant improvement in its intrinsic properties. Fine particles (filler) are washed out, there is a strict separation between sand and aggregates, and any present metals and floating materials (wood, plastic, insulation, etc.) are removed from the streams. The water required for the washing process is recycled within the installation itself.

Currently, the installation is set up at our Bruges site, but due to its semi-mobile structure, it can be used at other sites in the future.
